A Dream Come True
Al Harry Furniture Design is the fulfillment of a dream combined with faith and fortitude. As transplants from Long Island, NY almost 15 years ago, Alison, husband Joe and their four children moved to Hilton Head, SC in search of a less frantic lifestyle. Alison began working in the home design field but had no inkling about starting her own business until 2004 when she suddenly began having repeated visions of standing inside a little store filled with beautiful furniture. This brought back childhood memories of the sound and the smells of her father Harry’s workshop and how proud she was of the handcrafted furniture he created. She had visions of how beautifully her mom decorated their house, her keen sense of color and attention to detail. In 2012, her dreams became a reality when open Al Harry Furniture Design in the quaint little storefront on Calhoun Street in Old Town Bluffton, SC.
The Al & Harry Name
The name “Al & Harry” honors Alison’s relationship with her dad, Harry, and as she says, “The furniture represents the family God has blessed me with, my home, and everything I love and am passionate about.”
Alison derives inspiration from her childhood, the history of how people lived and furnished their homes, the ocean, sand, march, foliage, and flowers of the Lowcountry and Alison’s love of color. The collections consist of original designs created by Alison, which she commissions local carpenters to build, special pieces built by her husband, Joe, and her father, Harry.
Bringing the Past to life
The Al-Harry team also revitalizes and bring new life to family heirlooms. Each piece is adorned with hand-painted details, specialty finishes, unique knobs, interesting embellishments and protective topcoats to enhance their character and charm. Furniture is transformed into heirloom-quality pieces from Country French, Shabby Chic, Re-Design, American Vintage, Rustic European or Mid-Century Modern.
